This is a complete disgrace. Butina, who was falsely smeared by prosecutors and journalists as a transactional whore and then thrown in solitary confinement, is now getting even more prison time for the crime of essentially "networking" in Washington, DC
The sentencing judge apparently suggested that Butina had something to do with "Russian interference" in 2016, but Robert Mueller interviewed her and her name appears nowhere in the report. This was a transparent political prosecution and it's despicable
I truly have nothing but contempt for the media scolds and Twitter moralizers who felt authority to opine on Butina's private life and romantic decisions. As if she was the first woman in history to date an older man. Just disgusting
Insane, malicious, and false headline. She was not accused of spying. She pleaded guilty to not registering with the Govt., and insists she would have done so if she knew it was a potentially criminal offense. What in God's name is wrong with you people?
Butina wrote columns advocating her positions, constantly posted on social media, and otherwise took no steps whatsoever to conceal what she was doing. Does that sound like a "spy tactic" to you? Utter madness. @nytimes 
Oh and by the way, now we have a new precedent whereby any foreign national is potentially subject to overzealous prosecution for engaging in activity as trivial as networking, which in DC is as common as breathing air. It's seen as weird if you DO NOT engage in such activity
