I've gone and done something really stupid, I've started to believe that Warren's plan to cancel existing debt and make college accessible going forward could actually happen. Usually I'm far more cynical about things, but I can't stop thinking about that possible future.
The more I think about it, the more I want it to happen, which makes me think about the possibilities more, which increases my desire for it to happen, etc... Deep down, I can't imagine something so smart and progressive actually coming to fruition, but I can't stop wanting it.
Last time I felt this is when I let myself start to desire the TT faculty job I'd applied for at the place I was visiting. I knew, deep down, that it could happen, but the odds weren't in my favor. By the time the decision rolled around, I was highly invested, only to be crushed.
I don't want to be crushed again, so I have to stop thinking how incredibly awesome it would be to lift the burden of student loan debt from tens of millions of people while reinvesting in the notion of higher education as a public good. It's too much to wish for.
