I agree with this thread. Gordon Nardell QC wasn’t the ‘wrong kind of Jew’ (there was no requirement for that role to be someone Jewish) but the wrong person to oversee disciplinary complaints. The fact that he is Jewish is irrelevant unless used as a fig leaf
As with Laura Murray, Nardell is a close ally of the leadership (former Militant Tendency, publicly defended eg Livingstone, member of the extreme LRC group) so the idea that he would add objectivity to the process (the point of his role) was rightly met with scepticism
It’s an extremely cheap point to call him the ‘wrong kind of Jew’ and the kind of rhetoric you hear from some the cranks in the movement.
This and the defence of Murray demonstrates again how skewed the priorities within the movement are and how important it is that an independent body is brought in
This part of Owen’s article is somewhat ironic given that as far as I understand the position some of the emails for which Laura Murray was criticised for were her communicating someone else in LOTO’s decision (I don’t know who) - someone else who has not bothered to defend her
