Greetings on Earth Day.

Synonyms:
अर्ध, ardha (region) — erde (German)
धरा, dharā — terra (Italian)
क्षमा, kṣamā — ziemia (Polish), zeme (Czech)
गो, go, gauh — gaia (Greek)

Earth is the Divine Cow गो, Gaia, or γῆ (gê, “earth”), origin of words like geology, geography.

In Niruka (8th cent BCE), Earth is the first meaning of गो, with cow as net meaning.

Homeric Hymn XXX to Gaea:

Agni/Vāc

अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवं ऋत्विजं |
होतारं रत्नधातमम् ||

I venerate Agni, the priest [purohita] who is the light {devam] and invoker [ṛtvij] of the sacrifice, the one who chants [hotṛ] and bestows treasure. (ṚV. 1.1.1)
Agni is the embryo of the waters.

Agni and Vāc are two manifestations of the same deeper reality. Vāc and Agni both hide in trees (wood) and waters.

Three functions of Agni are: witness (Jātavedas), protector of the house, and the slayer of foes. Why do we need to invoke Agni? Because it is normally hidden.

The fish, the horse, and the parrot (suśloka or śuka) in the Vedas find the hidden Agni.

The frog, the elephant, and the parrot do the same in other places.

Each of these covers two realms.

I have said this earlier and will do so again:
Our country India has achieved independence from the British since 1947, but English still plays a big role in our life.

First of all, there is no one, uniform Indian culture. Our country is a mixture of cultures, where each culture has its own language. We have Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, Mizo, Meitei, Kashmiri and all their dialects.

Many people hail the fact that despite this diversity, we are still United. But then how do people from two cultures who can't speak each other's language communicate? Through English ofcourse. A man from Maharashtra who knows Marathi won't be able to communicate

Its Friday afternoon. The news is depressing. I'm going to do a little THREAD on the lighter side, sharing some moments in my career of studying Sanskrit. #Sanskrit
I started studying Sanskrit when I was 18 years old. I was an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, a notably nerdy place (unofficial motto - Where Fun Comes to Die). Taking Sanskrit seemed normal. Some people just find their niche, I guess.
In my first Sanskrit class there were 20 of us. By the second class, we were down to 10. By the fourth class, we were down to 5. I have always loved a challenge, so I was hooked.

1/ For one, #Sanskrit is the most scientific language in the world. If u understand sanskrit grammar, learning any other language is a cakewalk.
2/ #Sanskrit is a Devabhasha. Every letter of Sanskrit is associated with certain sounds & vibrations which affect your own brain cells in a positive way. This is described in #ShivaAgama for each letter.
3/ #Sanskrit, as a Devabhasha, was designed to communicate the knowledge & science, subtle truths of enlightenment & dharma-artha-kama-moksha, which simply cannot be grasped, leave alone articulated, in any other language.

There is this idea that #Sanskrit is the mother of all the languages. The problem with this idea is that it has no scientific backing. 

What prompts Kannadigas to wrongly claim that European language Sanskrit is the mother of Dravidian language Kannada?
