my shul had an event scheduled tonight. i arrived early & the 1st thing the rabbi said to me was "how are you doing?"

i replied: "...it's too normal"

she would later share this to start the event. for everyone out there for whom it is too normal: i am with you. we are with you.

you are not doing it wrong for feeling unfazed. you are not doing it wrong for feeling an incomprehensible volume of emotions. there is no correct response to this sort of violence. just know that we are with you. we see you, we hold you, and we will outlive them.

i will fight every day with every tool that i have. we have fought for generations and centuries and we are still here and we will still be here. i will fight for myself, for our people, and for you. we will fight for ourselves, and for everyone who suffers under white supremacy.

the bad news is that there are no easy answers. gun control will not eradicate anti-semitic violence. ethno-nationalism will not eradicate anti-semitic violence. assimilation into whiteness will not eradicate anti-semitic violence. there will be no safety without liberation.

the good news is that liberation is possible. liberation is within the collective hands of every person & people that suffers under white supremacy. proletarian internationalism, a tool by which to link hands and dismantle the system that oppresses us, is in front of us.

we have the power to form one collective fist & smash every system that has ever rounded us up, put us down, blamed us, scapegoated us, divided and destroyed us. we have so, so many allies. stochastic terrorism is not inevitable. this is a fight and we can win it. we will win it.

it is the end of pesach, my friends. retell the maggid. slavery was not inevitable or unassailable. there was great tragedy and grave violence and great loss, but we wrested liberation from the hands of tyrants. the sea is ahead of us, if we have only the courage to act.
