A belated thought on the Spanish election: the VOX result is for obvious historical reasons significant. But looking at where the party did well, it seems to be mostly, for now at least, an important subset of PP electorate. So, different to far-right elsewhere in Europe
In other words, big parties in Spain and elsewhere, which are in effect broad coalitions, are struggling to keep their contradictions together as debates and issues become increasingly polarised and all too often binary
Finally, although there is no way to be 100% immune to these trends, it is worth noting that those leaders who have stood up and fought for more moderate/centrist views and values have often performed better than those that have instead pandered to the fringes
