1. The casual ease w/ which Pompeo smirks away the fact that Kim has killed several people w/ whom Pompeo recently negotiated should shock us. "Everyone knows that you gotta break a few eggs to make a good klepocratic omelette, amirite?" [smile, smile, blink, suppress grimace.]
2. How have we gotten to the place where tens of millions of Americans will just accept this as "the way the world with its 'tough leaders' really works?" I think the church sex abuse scandal might offer a few clues.
3. I saw these processes of normalization, denial, and cover up at work in central Pa in regard to both the Jerry Sandusky situation and the church sex abuse scandal which touched my hometown.
As I discuss in the thread linked above, the community I grew up in harbored a sexually predatory priest in the 70s, 80s, & 90s. Everyone knew it. No one did anything about it. Seemed normal. That community went 65/35 for Trump in 2016.
Obviously this is just correlation and not necessarily causation. But the willingness of the folks I grew up with to just give the immediate benefit of the doubt to anyone with a lot of power or money (as long as they were white) is a stubborn fact that can't just be wished away.
