"I'm not an activist, I'm a researcher / journalist / etc" is such a huge cop out. Everything we do (or fail to do) has political, and hence moral, implications. Our action, inaction, attention, apathy - especially now, and especially when it comes to highly contentious topics.
Not being an activist isn't an excuse to not be aware of the political impact of the work and actions (or inactions). It's also not an excuse to not have a moral backbone.
Also, activists aren't a separate category of professionals - activism is about how you approach your profession. Activists are also professional journalists, researchers, academics, writers, doctors, artists.
This blissful ignorance (and apathy) regarding the real world impact of your work is often a result of privilege. You wouldn't be this ignorant (or apathetic) of you, your family, or your friends faced the ultimate consequences of said impact.
