Thought experiment:

Can you make a case for an application you're convinced is biblical without using your go-to proof text?
"But--" you may protest, "every word of God is important! Why would I dismiss or ignore a Clear Teaching of the Word of God? One mention is sufficient!"
Yes, you're right. Every part of Scripture is given to us for life & godliness. The benefit of this experiment is that it can reveal how often we're interpreting texts in isolation.
IOW, the Bible is more than a list of rules. It is an argument about what is good & true with categories & logic that extend across its length & breadth.
And, pro-tip, individual texts are subject to the larger logic of Scripture, not the other way around. We process them from patterns & categories that have already been established.
So if you find you can't make an application w/ out a specific proof text, the problem isn't w/ Scripture. It's with our own understanding of it.
