For those w short memories, this is very similar to how the Iraq War began.
/Back then, John Bolton, a hawk loyal to VP Dick Cheney, played a key role when Cheney had him installed at the State Dept. to keep an eye on Colin Powell.1/
/ At the time, the so-called "Niger documents" among the key bits of "intel" that triggered the war, documents that purportedly showed that the Republic of Niger had sold tons of yellowcake uranium to Iraq's Saddam Hussein so he could make nuclear weapons.
/ But the Niger docs were forgeries and fabrications that were dessiminated by neocons and hawks like Bolton and again and again savvy intelligence analysts discovered they were fraudulent.
/ In fact, as I discovered in #TheFalloftheHouseofBush, in at least 14 occasions prior to Bush's declaration of war, analysts at the CIA, State Dept., and elsewhere raised doubts about their legitimacy, but Bush still referenced them in his 2003 State of the Union address.
/ That was possible because Cheney and Bolton played key roles filtering out any intel that was dispositive to their thesis that Saddam had nukes.
/ Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, who was Colin Powell's chief of staff told me that was "their favorite technique...."
/ They were relentless. And if Bolton succeeds in starting a war with Iran, it will be an even bigger disaster than the Iraq War.
