i bought some antique CRTs today. this one has the P7 long persistence blue/yellow phosphor.
and this one has my favorite phosphor, P12. the tube is a 3JP12.
this is a very adorable little CRT but i have no data. you have to be careful with the small ones, they often use lower voltages and burn out easily.
this is a Vacuum Tube Products VTP25PX. i think it's X for experimental, but i have no data on it.
at the eflea i totally missed someone who was selling two ultra-rare RCA type 906 CRTs. these were some of the first commercial CRTs ever produced and are notable for not having a conductive coating inside! anyway i walk up right as a friend of mine bought them all...

this is an LM168 voltage reference. i decapped it and took these pictures of the die. it's probably the worst analog layout i've ever seen. check out these weird problems! (thread)
there some transistors that are shorted out and don't seem to do anything. there are tons of crossunders in a few spots, and some mystery devices. there are bits of metal and resistors just hanging out, not connected to anything.
the datasheet has a schematic, but the schematic doesn't match the die! why not? turns out, i know the reason because i have a secret weapon (you'll never guess!)

let's talk about the memistor. no, not the MEMRISTOR, which is a resistor that changes resistance depending on the past current that has flowed through it. this is the MEMISTOR, which is like a transistor that remembers its conductive state! here is its symbol. (THREAD)
in this 1960 paper (www-isl.stanford.edu/~widrow/papers…), they made the first memistor with a pencil lead in a bath of copper sulfate/sulfuric acid. by forcing current in and out of a 3rd wire placed in the bath, they electroplated/removed copper from the pencil lead, changing its resistance
this is what it looked like.

Today at 10:00 Justice Minister Michael Masutha is holding a briefing on #Bosasa and @DOJCD_ZA contracts with the company now known as African Global Operations and its subsidiaries. Two former Correctional Services seniors, Linda Mti and Patrick Gillingham, have been charged.
On Friday, a statement on behalf of the #StateCaptureInquiry @StateCaptureCom Chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo announced contracts for GTS (formerly Sondolo IT) to provide security to the commission were not awarded correctly.
Zondo indicated GTS work at the #StateCaptureInquiry was investigated after a journalist raised the alarm on the company’s links to #Bosasa. That journalist is @CowansView of @News24 (his story also appeared in @City_Press).
