One of the concerning trends in evangelical theology over the past few years:

Broadening and redefining orthodox Trinitarian theology that has been established since the 4th century.
While at the same time demanding strict rigidity in the application of secondary issues.
In other words, some evangelicals are literally trying to re-define the doctrine of God, while simultaneously creating tests of orthodoxy out of secondary issues.
Why does all of this matter for the church?

Because if we don’t know how to practice basic theological triage as theologians, how can we expect our churches to?
I am not exaggerating when I say we run the risk of creating complementarian tri-theists.
In essentials, unity. In the nonessentials, liberty. In all things, charity.
This in no way means that we should not be biblically serious about secondary issues – we should!

Complementarianism
Baptism
Soteriology
Eschatology
Etc.

All of these matter a great deal, but none of them are the tests of orthodoxy that some want to make them.
Surely, if we can come together for the gospel over issues like baptism, cessationism/continuationsim, and church polity we can come together over complementarian practice.
