(Thread) Two days ago, volunteers with By the People were taken away in handcuffs while occupying the halls of a Congressional building. Their demands were simple, that Congress take up @RepRashida’s House Resolution 257 and begin impeachment proceedings now.
B/c the nation and its people cannot afford to wait any longer.
Impeachment is not an optional task, it is a *duty* prescribed by the Constitution for Congress to carry out when & if the President has openly violated the law or contradicted the norms & values of the United States

And it is irrefutable that he has committed and continues to commit crimes & impeachable offenses!
Therefore, our failure to begin impeachment proceedings, fully investigate the crimes & wrongdoings of this administration, and hold those responsible to account, sets a dangerous precedent.
It sets a precedent that illegal, corrupt, unconstitutional, undemocratic, and deeply bigoted behavior that endangers Americans’ lives is neither impeachable nor beneath the office of the presidency.
It is essentially an informal & perpetual pardon for all future wrongdoings within our government and society. An irreversible & grossly tainted standard by which elected officials will govern for generations to come.
And the fault will lie not only with the perpetrators, but with the opposition, who, during our nation’s darkest hours, are forgoing their duty to the law, the land, and its people… in exchange for a “safe” PR strategy and short-sighted, unstrategic, partisan games.
So our message to all who claim to defend the Constitution, is that impeachment is not a partisan tool designed solely for the undermining of political opponents, it is a non-violent and democratic safeguard against the corrupt, the unlawful, and the unworthy
And given the circumstances, beginning an impeachment inquiry is not optional, it is a necessity for the continuation and much-needed expansion of our democracy.
History will remember this moment for generations, so let it show that corruption, bigotry, and apathy did not go unchallenged. The time is now, Congress. What’s it going to take? @SpeakerPelosi @RepJerryNadler #TimeToImpeach
