The face of someone who was not consulted before we got a kitten.
She is nobly attempting to keep him clean and teach him not to scratch the things she knows he's not supposed to scratch. He mostly pounces repeatedly on her and chews on her face.
She spends a lot of time shell-shocked.
I have begun taking in her into the bathroom with me and shutting the door when I take my evening bath, which is usually around midnight, so she can have some time of peace where she is not going to get pounced on or chewed on.
She started tapping me on the shoulder around midnight to remind me that it was bath time.

The tapping has gotten earlier every night.
Now at about 6pm she's like BATH TIME PLEASE I NEED TO GET AWAY FROM THE CHILD
I should have gotten her a Mother's Day gift.

Also one of my best friends (I'll let him identify himself if he wants) grew up Catholic in New Mexico, so, like Legit Catholic. He and a coworker were walking home from work when the missionaries approached them.
My friend said, in the voice a door would speak with as it slammed shut, "I'm Catholic," and kept walking. His coworker stopped and engaged.

"So," my friend says when telling this story, "I left him there."

"You abandoned him!?" we always gasp.
And his answer is, "I showed him what to do. He didn't do it."

Catholics do NOT MESS AROUND, yo.

This is a day full of betrayal.

@Archaeotagh had offered to drop off some lunch (which was, in fact, delicious) so when there was a knock on my door, I opened it without looking.
It was missionaries. And they didn't even have the decency to bring me food.
I opened the door, and there was a pair of women, in skirts, standing there. I had a moment of I HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE but now they had seen me so I couldn't just shut the door and pretend I wasn't home.

Wow, the quotes in this article are something else.
"[S]tudio management now tells Kotaku they want to improve their work-life balance, even if they continue to feel that crunch is a necessity."

Allow me to translate: "Okay, since there's public pressure, we'll only destroy 80% of developers' lives, instead of 90%."
If crunch is necessary for your studio to survive, you have hired completely incompetent management and need to replace most or all of your senior management.

Before anyone give credence to the article written by @JWVerret, keep in mind he has now appeared on:
-CNN
-MSNBC
- The Atlantic (where his article ran)

Lots of publicity he’s getting. Wonder if he has a private firm and this is a PR Boost?
More importantly, @JWVerret, who tours himself as a “Republican Transition Team Member” was adamantly not a fan of POTUS Trump, ever.

In fact, he was a Marco Rubio fan, and disliked the tactics Trump used during the primaries.
Verret goes on to use the word “pragmatic” in some form or another at least a half dozen times in the 3 or 4 paragraph article in the Atlantic, while not really giving readers a reason why.

He should be impeached; because it’s pragmatic. Ok. Good reason. 🙄

Things people who served on active duty never say...

@tedlieu has tweeted “I served on active duty in the United States military to defend your right to say...” 75 times since 24/3/2018.

Ted Lieu’s ‘active duty’ comprised prosecuting airmen from a comfortable JAG office chair.
Each and every time he tweets “I served on active duty in the United States military to defend your right to say...”, he gives himself false equivalence with and diminishes the endeavours of those who put themselves in harm’s way to genuinely “defend your right to say...”.
And he accepted payments from a donor who was known for drugging men of a specific racial profile with meth during fetish games, two of whom died.

Now he’s giving the dubious donation money away in a lame effort to keep himself clean.

Why accept that money in the first place?

Things that help ME when I'm down:

- perspective:
- being real ("this does suck")
- imagining in 5 years (it'll probably be OK)
- helping someone else

- distractions:
- walk in nature (observing, not thinking)
- silliness & minor "adventures"
- books & movies
If you think I'm having a hard time and you don't know what to do, try ^ those things on me.
I really appreciate the people I feel safe enough to "be real" with, who I feel I can share the not-happy parts of life with, without worrying that they'll just offer platitudes or minimizations or judgments.
