1/That a judicial matter w/a *cooperating* witness could be producing so much news - and very bad news for the President - reminds us how far fr over whole Mueller investigation is, and how much we/Congress still doesn't know. Effort to suppress information has been Olympian.
2/Extraordinary that Mueller ended w/so much still in motion, dozens of different investigations. Sure feels like Barr came in and just shut the whole thing down, lied to the public/Congress abt core findings and is now doing everything he can to prevent Congress from continuing.
3/So much of what Trump/Barr tried to establish has already been debunked. Clear Mueller intended hand off to Congress as investigation isn't finished; as arbiter of impeachment, Congress has clear role here; spying never occurred; Trump isn't innocent. nbcnews.com/politics/white…
4/So where they are going is the only place they can go now - discredit entire enterprise, throw whole thing down the memory hole.
5/People underestimate how much Trump's historically bad poll numbers are driving current political moment. Unless something changes, Trump will be badly beaten next year, as he was in 2018. He has to prevent further erosion (Barr) and somehow change current landscape (Iran, VZ).
6/Here's some info on just how bad Trump's poll numbers are. He's in the low 40s in most polls, which is wipeout territory. If he drops any further, he could see a real primary challenge or be Mondale, McGovern next year.
7/Finally, the pro-Russia moves Trump has taken since his call with Putin two weeks ago are IMHO grounds enough to start a fresh counter-intel probe with FBI, intel committees. Issue of his relationship w/Putin ongoing issue, not something in the past.
