There are legitimate arguments for limiting immigration, and each country is entitled to make laws for its own well being. But there are zero legitimate reasons for limiting it on the basis of religion. Zero. This is stereotyping, plain and simple. americamagazine.org/politics-socie…
This approach also completely subverts Jesus's parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10). The man who helps the beaten man by the side of the road is a Samaritan, from a different religious tradition. One of the parable's messages is that "our neighbor" may have different beliefs.
Moreover, our salvation, as in the case of the Good Samaritan parable, may depend entirely on the person that we falsely see as "other." And, by the way, the Samaritan helps the beaten man even at considerable risk to himself. (He is on a road frequented by robbers.)
Indeed, the entire thrust of Jesus's message about how to treat the "stranger" or the "alien" (which would also have included the equivalent of migrants and refugees in those days) is welcoming them (Mt. 25).
Jesus does not say "Welcome the stranger only if he is from the same religion." He does not say, "Welcome the stranger only if there is no risk to you." He does not say "Welcome the stranger only if he agrees with you." No. Jesus says, "Welcome the stranger."
