The FBI has noticed a significant increase since the fall in investigations of racially-motivated domestic terrorism suspects, a senior FBI country-terrorism official said today.
The FBI did not provide a statistical breakdown of the investigations during a terrorism briefing with reporters. But the FBI official said the bureau had about 850 open domestic terrorism investigations.
Those 850 cases include a wide-variety or investigations, ranging from racially motivated suspects (including those targeting religions) to those motivated by their anti-government, abortion and animal rights beliefs.
By comparison, more than 4,000 investigations involve aspects of international terrorism. About 1,000 involve ISIS and another 1,000 concern home-grown extemists
