Received the first set of #DrADataCamp evaluations. Here are some comments Do you recommend data camp?
"Yes. It’s great Stata crash course! It’s hard to find that level of instruction on the internet and in a college classroom where Stata is a tool, not the end goal."
"Instead of learning a tutorial, Dr. A really touched on the “why” of research and data. It really helps the learning process when you have a goal that you are
trying to achieve. I think that really made Data Camp a step above other data lessons that I have participated in."
"Yes, I feel like a learned so much in a very short amount of time. This experience is really valuable for students looking to start research or get into grad schools. ....
....Most students just struggle through learning about the data cleaning/ analysis process and it takes forever to learn and ends up stalling them while
they are still getting started."
"Yes. I believe learning through this medium is extremely effective. You get to connect with your peers, and workers from different industries. In addition, you learn why data is important and how it used."
What did you dislike?
"I disliked that we were so crunched for time. Every time that I began to get into a groove with the data that we were working with, we would be towards the
end of class and would get cut off."
"I thought we did not have enough time for the actual project. As a beginner, I was more interested in learning the different commands and I was anxious
about how I would apply that to my project."
What recommendations do you have?
"Consider making it longer- maybe a 20 hr week"
"Do some pre-camp work the week before. Maybe have the students watch a few videos or something to familiarize themselves with the materials before
camp starts. That way you have more time during the week to dive into the details."
Overall successful event. First time is out of the way, can't wait to modify it for next year. I'll have to figure out how to host it in Dublin! Once again, thanks to the TA's This would not have been possible without their help @TsageDouglas @EveryFreyday @BenReynoldsKY
