The SL satellites are heading up now and won't be as visible as they are now. Interference issues are not new and are not limited to optical frequencies. Users need to learn to share since spectrum is a finite resource. Uses must change as tech advances. thespacereview.com/article/3702/1

When people look at the lifetime value (CLV) formula they may think "Oh this is like math." Yes, there is a formula but if the assumptions are wrong you may have less than nothing. The future of a business can't be calculated like an annuity since humans don't behave predictably.
Bill Gurley and I talked when he was writing this essay about how CLV is a useful organizing tool but you need to be careful about how it is used. All formulas are wrong and some are useful. Applying CLV is a black art --previous experience is helpful. google.com/amp/s/25iq.com…
What is new is that there is far more customer telemetry and new data science tools than ever before and so the scientific method can be applied to managing a customer relationship. But if the assumptions are wrong even with these new tools it may be garbage in and garbage out.

I attended a book talk this morning by Portland/Chang Mai based Andy Ricker (Pok Pok). Of course, I asked him what the restaurant business is like right now. He said "I don't want to talk about it" and then proceeded to talk about it. He said "just don't do it." Margins are tiny.
Ricker repeated the often heard insight that if you make any profit as a restauranteur it is on the sale of liquor. He was talking today about his 3rd book on noodles. He dissed being an author and then talked about the difficulty of selling his Som drinking vinegars at a profit.
Ricker talked about his time with Anthony Bourdain and said it amounted to about 40 minutes. Most time is waiting for a shot or reshoots.

Bourdain said to Ricker he had the best job in the world but was alone almost all the time and was unhappy. "Driven by what he was doing."

Omggggg, here I'm sitting, minding my own business eating a bagel and drinking my PSL at LAS, and this group of moms who are heading home from their vacation are discussing their home alarm systems and asking each other what the PIN code is.
One says "isn't it 1234?" And the other goes, no, it's "07xx". I know because I saved it in my notes. Then she plays on her phone and says "see I saved it on October 10".
A third woman asks "why 07xx? And the second one said "because that's my son's birthday". And the third goes "oh, that makes sense. 07xx."
THEY SAID IT SO MANY TIMES. I CANT HELP BUT MEMORIZE IT.

My first microtweetorial! “Using learning outcomes to prepare your best presentation!” My audience is super smart people who just never happened to study education, but still must teach things. My knowledge comes from my @hgse graduate degree & years of college teaching.
Learning outcomes are important because they focus us humbly on the student and what they should walk away with after our interaction. It’s not about us or what we want to say, it’s about what they need to learn by the end of our time together.
They are simple, measurable, achievable in your time frame, easy to understand, and they should always fit with the overall desired goals, and/or values of the larger course, conference or program. You write outcomes first, before planning. I use Knowledge, Skills and Values.

As of today, November 30, I've been paid this year the amount of money (minus self-employment taxes) that I was paid as my base salary the first year I was a developer.
Before you start balking at consultants rates, remember I have to pay:
- 35% self-employment tax
- ~$10k/year in medical insurance
- ~$4k for counseling or other out-of-pocket medical costs
- ~$1k - $3k for a coworking space, or an equivalent amount of coffee shop food
