Since rather below 40% voted for this dubious prospectus, there is no basis on which it can be said to be “the will of the people”.
No one sensible pays much attention to lawyers’ views on economics. But what @lawyers4britain should accept - but don’t - is that “no deal” would produce legal uncertainty amounting to chaos in large areas of the law (including family/extradition law as well as trade/regulation).
And what one can say with some confidence as a lawyer is that legal chaos/uncertainty has unquantifiable but large economic costs. Both short term and long term (damage to U.K. reputation for legal solidity).
Some lawyers would benefit from that in the short term, of course. Especially litigators. But their gain would be a fraction of the UK’s loss. /ends
