Let me tell you one small story. My Dad bought a property when he was alive, he actually paid for it in the presence of his lawyer friend and took pictures with the owner of the property.
After he died, we heard rumours that one man had leased away the property to a church. So we went to investigate and the police got involved. My mum was still mourning and she was wearing her black mourning outfit. She wasn’t even supposed to leave the house but she had to.
We got there and realized it was on elderly man, claiming the property as his. So she started crying her eyes out. People living around even told us the man had a penchant for claiming people’s properties in the area as his and using diabolical means to keep it that way.
My mum started crying her eyes out and the police got involved. So they asked her to stop crying and bring her documents, which she did. The man also brought his own. Mind you, his documents were fake and they even confirmed from the Ministry that his were not legit.
The case was handled at State CID here in PH and the commissioner of police got involved, the man even got arrested and was later released. Even the church people that were occupying the property were asked to vacate, but they refused.
My mum spent so much money trying to get the property back and the man kept threatening her that he is ready for anything; court or juju. My mum got scared so she left the property for the man, claiming that her life is more important than the property.
So those of you saying the man overreacted probably haven’t had to fight for a property in court before. Some people can deliberately frustrate your life because of something that belongs to you. Not everybody has the strength and time to fight for a property. He had to act fast.
The funny thing about our own case is that the lawyer friend my Dad even used to handle the buying of the property didn’t say anything to my mum. He kept asking for outrageous amounts of money to help protect his own late friend’s property.
The guy my Dad bought the property from even presented the documents to prove that the property was his and he indeed sold it to my late Dad but nothing was done about it. So my mum finally had to let it go out of fear for her own life.
So next time you want to start insulting that man, think about how far she would have gone to claim that property as hers if he hadn’t swiftly intervened.
