Tory chairman Brandon Lewis has privately assured MPs he is not endorsing the TV debates proposal

His team say he has no view on it and that this is a decision for 1922 committee – so eyes on Cheryl Gillan and Charles Walker
When the Hancock TV debates letter emerged there was concern among some of the One Nation MPs whose support he is trying to attract

Fear is a debate would descend into a blue-on-blue-on-blue chaotic slanging match and help Corbyn at a general (One Nation group's worst fear)

NEW: BuzzFeed News has uncovered comments by Dominic Raab in which said gender pay audits should be shelved, the Government Equalities Office abolished and argued women enjoy an “unfair advantage” over men at work

1922 committee meeting of Tory MPs about to begin. Theresa May is ducking out so party chairman Brandon Lewis speaking in her place. Can’t imagine it’ll be a quiet one.

buried in the Electoral Commission figures is fact that Tory party's income from membership has slumped from £1.46m to £835,000 in a year, for some reason.....compares to Labour getting £16m from membership subscriptions, up from £14m the previous year
so has Tory party membership fallen by 43 per cent in 12 months? "I can't give you an answer to that right now," says press office.
