The problem is not with Rahul Gandhi's articulation or choice of words

In fact his communication has improved a great deal relative to 2013

The problem was - he was wrong. Modi wasn't a Chor. And people knew it!
To my mind this is something the liberal crowd is not willing to acknowledge

They grudgingly attribute the loss to RG's poor leadership

As though fixing RG would have toppled Modi
But this election was not about RG. It was about Modi

One can quibble a lot about Modi's policies

But nobody was willing to believe he could be corrupt. Because he isn't.

So RG had the wrong line of attack
Instead of making legitimate arguments about policy details. E.g. Implementation bugs in GST or DeMo, RG and the Congress chose to focus on Modi's lack of integrity

Sorry...that's like bowling on Tendulkar's legs, or giving Ganguly room outside off-stump
Integrity and Earnestness are Modi's strong points

RG was never going to get the better of Modi on that front

If he had to attack him, it had to be on the economy. That argument never came through
Instead RG chose to compete with Modi on personality

And somehow position himself as a more honorable person

People laughed at that attempt
