Most of my batchmates are rich, empty-nested, semi-retired, intellectual, opinionated, and have too much time on their hands. I am NOTA. So I find it hard to keep up with them on the batch WA group. +
How they know so much about so much, I don't know. Politics, international affairs, history, sex lives of invertebrates, rigveda, Shrodinger's cat, Bollywood gossip... +
The group has some real characters. The instant poet, the tangential commentator, the big data freak, the sesquipedalian, the Thirukkural quoter, the puzzler, the riddler, the blank audio sender, and the message deleter. +
One of them inspired me to coin a word, with help from @HaggardHawks - zyzzyvist. That's someone who just has to have the last word. Even if it's 'let's agree to disagree'. Which of course happens a lot. We are very amiable that way. Except when we're not. +
There are those quit in a huff and need to be coaxed back. I quit and rejoined too. I was off the group for months. When I rejoined, it took me minutes to realise why I quit. It's a bloody mental place! But addictive as cutting chai. +
There are times when there are five or six people typing at the same time. I wake up sometimes to find that there are 347 unread messages. You'd expect that I'll just skip to the end. Nope. I read them all. The FOMO is too much. +
The WA group is all the preparation I need for my business meetings. There's always something there that I can use to dazzle, entertain, shock, amuse my clients. Of course, some of my clients are also members of such groups, so I need to exercise caution. +
There was a particular occasion, no kidding, when my whatsapp group discussed whether the bindi in the devanagari script was half म or half न for two whole days, over hundreds of scholarly posts. +
At the end of that exhausting discussion the two camps agreed to disagree. Watte fun.
