People produce their best work when their personal and professional goals meaningfully intersect and align. The lack of universal paid parental leave currently makes it complicated for many parents to effectively lead a healthy family life, and focus on their careers. [1/n]
We firmly believe that young parents should be able to make a choice of how to care for their children. So, today, we are introducing a new parental leave policy (zomato.com/blog/parental-…) at Zomato. 26 weeks paid leave for both men and women. [2/n]
This also applies to non-birthing parents and in cases of surrogacy, adoption, and same-sex partners. Also, the new parents will be given a bonus of $1000 per child. These changes are applicable to even those Zomans who have had a child in the last 6 months. [3/n]
We also wish that governments across the world institutionalised paid parental leave (the way Nordic countries do) – that will be the right thing to do for organisations as well as individuals. [4/n]
We firmly believe that a myopic view of primary care-giving not only alienates one half of our workforce, but also creates circumstances that lead to fewer female leaders within organisations, the community and the nation. [5/n]
It takes a village to raise a child. And while a village is ideal, a world where both parents are allowed to assume equal responsibility is a fair start. We'll never have truly gender-neutral organisations unless we have gender-neutral communities & gender-neutral nations. [6/n]
