@PreetBharara Re: Cafe Insider. I can't believe you and Ann argue in the alternative if Mueller had come to a conclusion what Barr would have done. The purpose of a special council is to remove politics from an investigation.
Were Barr acting in good faith he would have told Mueller to make the decision. He and Rosenstein weren't blindsided. They knew he didn't make the decision, yet said nothing.
I'm vexed that you would spend time dissecting what is obvious bad faith. No point in hypotheticals. And Barr acting in good faith is a big hypothetical. Pondering bad faith as if it's reasonable reinforces bad faith. It's a thought experiment.
It starts to sound like all of this is but an interesting academic exercise. For me this is an agonizing joke. I'm not having a wonderful week. Trump gets to prove to the world that laws, agreements, commitments are for suckers.
So far, Trump makes better arguments than those who claim feality to the law. He's proving - all around the world - that a country of men is more powerful than a country of laws. I'm sorry to say you and others are losing.
Between mass incarceration, miscarriages of justice, even the legalization of marajuana because white men now want want to smoke it, and the meak legalisms pondered daily by well meaning people, it appears that laws are powerless against powerful people.
Trump is proof that the law is a joke. Delicate legalisms. Of interest. Fascinating. Let's ponder this shred of minutiae while Trump shreds our way of life. Watch him show the world that men are more important than laws. It won't leave you much to talk about.
