#Iraqwar is trending. I knew it was a fraud and spoke out. I also went there before and during to document the crime being committed.
The late Danny Schechter did a great doc on this. Yes I helped. That's me mumbling in the intro and explaining what its like to be embedded with journalists. Homemade but earnest it's an attempt to show the collusion of the media in the murder of Iraqis.
Tired of the bullshit being fed into the public from embedded media, I created IraqSlogger with Eason Jordan. The most insightful and real reporting from the ground in Iraq. iraqslogger.powweb.com

1/. 18 years ago as the bombs rained down on #Iraq as Operation Shock & Awe began, Eric Levy was in Baghdad in a power station

He'd gone to #Iraq with hundreds of human shields to try & stop an illegal war & to protect Iraqi civilians by staying in civilian infrastructure sites.
2/. Eric - now 92 - was one of about 80 human shields who stayed throughout the #IraqWar

"The war was illegal & immoral. We may have failed to stop the invasion, but by putting ourselves in harm’s way, we sent a clear message to the world"

That's courage

Pres. Bush announcing begining of hostilities
The casus belli was, "Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction and therefore the world needed saving". United Nations Security Council resolution 678, passed in Nov. 1990, allowed the use of force to end Iraq occupation of Kuwait and RESTORE INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY.
A recent resolution 1441passed in Nov. 2002, required Iraq to allow inspections by UNMOVIC and IAEA and if there was further Iraqi breach reported to the Council, the matter would return to the Council for discussions as to next cause of action.

On March 20 2003, exactly 17 years ago today, the United States began bombing Baghdad, calling for the start of the #IraqWar, which would nearly last for a decade. Below is a thread of the atrocities, lies, and effects of the immoral and illegal invasion/occupation of #Iraq: Image
The reason for the war was that US President George W. Bush and his administration claimed that Iraq owned and was manufacturing “Weapons of Mass Destruction.”
As a result of these claims, the United Nations investigated Iraq’s weapons facilities throughout January of 2003, and not a single WMD was found. Despite this, Bush’s Administration insisted that Iraq owed WMDs, and that Iraqi Leader Saddam Hussein would arm Al Qaeda with them.

The #NoBidenPledge:

We pledge to neither vote for, convince others to vote for, nor support the campaign of @JoeBiden in the event he becomes the Democratic Party nominee

#NoBiden
#DemExit
Some of us are independents. Some are lifelong Democrats. Some were #ObamaToTrump voters in 2016. Some are @BernieSanders supporters, others @ewarren supporters, and others undecided.

All of us would have otherwise supported @TheDemocrats in the general election.
Our three major objections:

1) @JoeBiden’s history of support for right-wing policy

2) Concerns about Biden’s health and ability to defeat Trump and carry out the office of President

3) The DNC and media’s collective effort to smother a grassroots progressive movement

A lot of friends and colleagues have asked me over the past few days how worried I am about the current situation with Iran. The short answer is, very. Let me explain. <thread>
In the nearly 9 years I have been working @WinWithoutWar and working on these issues, this is by far the closest the United States has been to a major military conflict with Iran. Neither side has reason or intention to back down at this point, and all signs point to war. 2/
The US is currently led by a man already impeached & awaiting trial for putting the nation's interests second to his own on foreign policy. He is erratic, reckless, and has demonstrated time and again that he has no understanding of basic facts or complexity of these issues. 3/

These actions are not the prelude to a U.S. attack against #Iran

There is clear & persistent evidence, supported by observable movements on the ground, that Iran’s proxy forces in #Iraq & #Yemen plan to attack Americans with the intent of inflicting mass casualties
URGENT: 2/5
#Iran’s #IRGC has spent years building the capability to attack us using proxy forces. They believe they can inflict casualties on the U.S. without international condemnation because world will see it as the actions of independent Shia groups instead of Iran itself
URGENT 3/5:
The also believe that our internal political divisions combined with the legacy of the #IraqWar will lead a substantial % of Americans to doubt #Iran’s role in such attacks or blame Trump. & they have built propaganda capability to spread narrative in social media

16 years ago I participated in my first direct action, walking out of class as an 8th grader in protest of the #IraqWar.
A brave teacher who helped us organize the walkout gathered us in her classroom. She advised us to carry US flags as we marched. The opposition was carrying this violence out in the US' name, she said. #IraqWar
We had to show the world that there were US citizens who were against the war, that the US stood for more than invasion and occupation. #IraqWar
