Prosecution is due to call witnesses at Newcastle crown court re school records for ‘Nick’ and more on his time at school.

Prosecution at #NickTrial calls Stephen Bamber, ADC to then General Sir Edwin Bramall, commander-in-chief, at Erskine Barracks from 15.09.74. Bramall reported to Sir Roland Gibbs as then chief of general staff, jury is told.
To clarify, Edwin Bramall was then commander-in-chief of UK Land Forces.

Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial that Sir Hugh Beach was then Bramall's deputy and a lieutenant-general.
Asked by prosecutor Tony Badenoch whether he knew the step-father of 'Nick', a major, Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial: "No."

He says that he was ADC to Edwin Bramall until April 1978.
Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial that he lived with Edwin Bramall and his family in Fulford Manor, some 14 miles from Erskine barracks, and arrived and left work with him when he was ADC to Bramall.
Every car entering Erskine Barracks was checked at the time, Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial.

Edwin Bramall was driven around in official black Rover cars, Bamber says.
Asked whether he saw any children at Erskine barracks, Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial: "Never."

In the offices where Edwin Bramall worked? "Never."
My reference, during Stephen Bamber's evidence to #NickTrial to Fulford Manor, where Edwin Bramall lived at the time, should in fact be to Bulford Manor.
Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial that he oversaw Edwin Bramall's personal and professional diary.

Did he ever cause for concern that he was somewhere he shouldn't be? "No."
Stephen Bamber remained in contact with Edwin Bramall after he stopped being his ADC and he left the army five months later, he tells #NickTrial, "including yesterday."
Cross-examined by defence counsel Ray Tully, Stephen Bamber confirms to #NickTrial that Willie Whitelaw visited General Bramall in an "official capacity" even though there was a Labour government at the time.
Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial that General Bramall was a terrible driver, having little regard to other people on the road and often getting lost. This was because he drove rarely.
Stephen Bamber tells #NickTrial that he became a medical doctor. He stands down.
Prosecution at #NickTrial calls Sir Garry Johnson, a senior former Army officer who was military assistant at Erskine barracks to Roland Gibbs and then Edwin Bramall as commander-in-chief of UK Land Forces between September 1974 and November 1976.
Sir Garry Johnson tells #NickTrial that he did not know of the step-father of 'Nick', a major, from his work in the army.
Asked whether he ever saw children at Erskine barracks, Sir Garry Johnson tells #NickTrial: "It would be most unusual, and certainly not in the headquarters buildings."
Did he ever have cause for concern that Roland Gibbs was somewhere he shouldn't be? "Never."

Edwin Bramall? "Absolutely not."
Sir Garry Johnson tells #NickTrial: "I would be so shockedx and appalled if I thought something was going on."

He says that it was "very difficult" for a general to have a "private life" with the "cocoon of security".
Jury member in #NickTrial is feeling unwell, so judge Sir James Goss adjourns case for a break...

Because it is unclear how unwell the jury member is, judge adjourns for lunch.

Prosecution calls Michael Goldschmidt, retired army officer who rose to rank of colonel. He was a miltary assistant to Lt-Gen Sir Peter Hudson at Erkine barracks, and Sir Edwin Bramall was c-in-c for the first three months of that.
Asked by prosecutor Tony Badenoch whether he ever saw children at the headquarters building at Erskine Barracks, Michael Goldschmidt tells #NickTrial that he did not.
After 11 minutes in the witness box, Michael Goldschmidt stands down at #NickTrial.

Prosecution reads to #NickTrial witness statement of Stuart Mellors, a retired army driver, now deceased. He became a driver to Gen Bramall when he was commander-in-chief of UK Land Forces.
Judge explains to jury in #NickTrial that if he were still alive, defence would have asked him whether he ever drove Gen Bramall to the Carlton Club or Dolphin Square.
Stuart Mellors read to #NickTrial: he was Gen Bramall's "number 1" driver for 10 years.

He was "never asked" to collect young boys by Bramall, knew of no link between the general and Harvey Proctor, and never heard of step-father of 'Nick'.
Prosecution read to #NickTrial statement of Scott Masterton, a pupil at the Kingston primary school also attended by 'Nick'. He said that he was not in any road accident, and did not know of anyone who was.
The mother of another pupil called Scott at the same Kingston primary school said that her son was not in a road accident at school, but was killed aged 25 in a motorcycle accident.
Statement read to #NickTrial by a former teacher at the secondary school attended by 'Nick' said that he scored an A- and then an A for attendance.
Judge adjourns #NickTrial for today.

'Nick' denies 12 charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and one of fraud.

Case continues.
