Love this description of a space elevator on Mars, which would be required to make mining there profitable
What’s most surprising is that the length of the elevator cable would have to be 5 times the diameter of the planet. That seems really far
SO cool to see all this thought out, of only fictionally
Interplanetary politics are going to be so fascinating
I can’t believe a space elevator on Mars would have to be 37k km out into orbit. Earth is about 4x larger so does that mean an Earth elevator would have to be 148k km long? That’s almost halfway to the moon!

1/ Big realization: all the note-taking methods I teach can and should be done at the END of whatever you're doing. 99% of the time when I'm working, reading, etc. it looks exactly the same as everyone else. It's what I do in the last 1% that makes the difference
2/ At the end of a call or meeting, I take a couple minutes and summarize the next steps. At the end of a class, I summarize the takeaways. At end of a book, I export the highlights. At end of a project, I write up learnings. This is the fuel of my second brain
3/ Same with organizing these notes. At the end of the day I take photos of any paper notes I've taken. End of the week I go through inbox of accumulated notes and file them into notebooks/folders. This takes mere minutes, but gives me a treasure trove of material to work with

Too much attention went to the catchy broken window, and not enough to the first two steps, starting with a property being abandoned

1/ Talking to @TheLaurenValdez tonight we had a big insight that in retrospect seems blindingly obvious: BASB is “just” another way of working. It’s a WOW
2/ So far I’ve tried to invent a new field (PKM, which never sticks), connect to an existing one (PIM, which no one cares about), or just use the brand name (BASB, which sparks interest but requires lots of explanation)
3/ It’s much easier and more effective to place it in the lineage of other WOWs like design thinking, agile/Kanban, Lean Startup, TOC, holocracy, GTD, etc. This both elevates it to a fundamentally new way of working, but also grounds it in a pre-existing category

This morning I've finished Scott Kellys (@StationCDRKelly) Book "Endurance" ( bit.ly/endurance-scot… ). Some thoughts below.
First, thank you Scott for sharing your story along with many personal insights from your time in space. It's great to learn more about the long path to become an astronaut and all the immense effort behind the human space program.
While reading Scotts book I got to understand the scale of the challenges coming with living and working in space better. It starts with having no gravity assisting you with daily life, keeping yourself healthy and alert for the hostile environment you are living in.
