A big reason why our education system continues to turn out dumbos on an industrial scale owes a lot to the near-complete absence of any emphasis on language. Writing & Composition to be precise.

I've read several "theses" of MA and even doctoral students of English LITERATURE. Tenses fly at will, numbers never agree, verbs are confused with ADJECTIVES...the list is endless. These guys go on to become lecturers. Any #NewEducationPolicy wonk listening?

Writing in Bharatiya languages is even worse. These languages are supposed to be their mother tongue. Reminds me of this immortal scene from Sankarabharanam:

Any trace of classical learning has been completely wiped out from our syllabi. In all languages including English. Grammar is frowned upon because it is "so boring" and "tough," euphemisms for "I am lazy. Deal with it. But give me marks/grades."

I may be wrong on this one but the fine art of memorising true poetry has also been obliterated. Post-modern and feminist bullshit written by placing three words on a line is NOT poetry.

So what is the child left with? No grammar. No spelling. No syntax. No structure. No composition. No poetry. No development of the innate human faculty for responding to rhythm and music.

This is how Swara Bhaskars and the armies of illiterate pen-pushing zombies at Scroll, Wire, and most English media houses are produced.

Clear writing is the evidence of clear thinking. The stuff I listed out in the previous tweets are the mandatory and essential tools that must be mastered and ruthlessly practiced to develop clear thinking.

Why doesn't anyone squirm or bat an eyelid when "eminent" professors stand on public stage and nonchalantly say, "I would able to write on foreign policy..." ?

The results are visible everywhere. For e.g. Hindi literature hasn't managed to produce even 1% of Shri Narendra Kohli. Or Kannada another DVG or Karantha or even SL Bhyrappa. Or Telugu, a Viswanatha Satyanarayana or Nori.

Or how many ENGLISH teachers can explain the full profundity of the immortal, "To be or not to be?"

But why even bother to learn writing or anything when you have Google Assistant, Alexa, etc?

Given all this, I can only conclude that contemporary "education" system to put it bluntly, is child abuse leading to lifelong and in some cases, incurable impairment.
