Before I respond to someone on @Twitter, I check their stream to understand their tone, sentiment and engagement motivation.

If I see any indication of trolling, negativity, overselling, misinformation or inappropriate content, I will not engage.

Your digital exhaust matters.
Personal brand = digital footprint + digital exhaust

exhaust = unintended leave behinds that speak to your EQ, IQ and LQ (Love)
If your @Twitter stream does not educate and inspire you, then consider using it differently.

Use impeccable words. Be kind and humble. Be honest. Show gratitude. Give without expecting a get. Do not nitpick or correct others as a hobby. And please do not respond to negativity.

People *can* change. They just can't usually do it by force of will.

If you want to be a very different person, you'll probably have to put yourself in a very different environment under very different incentives/constraints & you'll probably have to burn your ships behind you.
I think if you're very unhappy with your life, there's hope for you; the odds that you're in anywhere near the best habitat for the unique creature that you are is very low. Many high potential people are unusually high maintenance & few environments really work for them.
Plot your escape. Have a fallback plan, but not an easy one. Hitting escape velocity is hard, but you only have to maintain it briefly. Move somewhere new, maybe near your online friends; take a new job; throw yourself into an unusual situation. This is your life

1. There are 2 kinds of quality workers.

1. Barrels
2. Ammunition

Ammunition is raw firepower, but you need barrels to lead the team and set the vision.

Barrels take ideas from start to finish. They motivate people and think autonomously.

When you find a barrel, hire them!
2. People waste time in two big ways:

1. Don’t read the internet. Most things written online aren’t worth reading. It’s better to read real books instead of blogs are current events.

2. Conferences and social gatherings aren’t a high leverage use of time.

someone was talking to me about derbycon - the fact that it being the last year, and the conference historically not being good about safety or handling incidents (not to mention all the harassment) this year might be the most wild - they have nothing to lose. wow.
then realized another thing Derbycon did with the blog post. The way they wrote it to blame SJWs and talk about all the negativity THEY have endured, they are creating pity for themselves. So this year people will be more hesitant to bring up issues because "they work so hard"
I don't deny Derbycon works hard. However, EVERY SINGLE CONFERENCE works hard. It's hard work!!

This is NOT an excuse for not being responsible for safety. This is NOT an excuse to be able to dog whistle alt-right and misogynists talking about SJWs. This is NOT an excuse.

I like to call it the Buckingham-Gallup strengths approach as elucidated in two books: Now Discover Your Strengths (NDYS) and Go Put Your Strengths to Work (GPYSTW)
I am not super-impressed by the credentialing around this by Gallup or other variants from Marcus. There are two other flavors that are very different and not as useful for career thinking
