I've been trying, but I'm still perplexed by the president's argument that trying to figure out whether someone broke the law is a law-enforcement function reserved to the executive. Prosecuting, sure. But obtaining information doesn't seem like enforcement to me.
But on the other hand if gathering information to figure out whether someone has broken the law counts as law-enforcement, I am pleased to discover that I and many other reporters have had a career in law-enforcement.
(I once even used a radar gun to investigate whether people were breaking the law, as @PGDougSchneider can attest. That investigation pretty readily showed people were breaking the law, but I wouldn't say I was enforcing it.)

NEW: The FBI has been examining a violent domestic dispute from nine years ago between acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and his then-wife as part of a background investigation ahead of his possible confirmation hearing.

The competing accounts of the violent fight between Shanahan and his then-wife are outlined in hundreds of pages of court files and police records, as well as interviews. They did not surface when Trump selected Shanahan as the Pentagon's No. 2, or as acting defense chief.
Update: Shanahan said will resign as acting defense chief and withdraw his name from consideration to be Trump's defense secretary, adding new uncertainty into the top echelon of the national security apparatus.

This is a FASCINATING paper on the relationship between gender attitudes and fertility. It shows in a big panel dataset from the UK that, 1991-2017, the association between traditional gender values and fertility has weakened. demographic-research.org/volumes/vol40/…
Now to be clear, weakened doesn't mean it's nothing. Even in their most preferred specs, more traditionalism is still associated with more babies. It's just that association gets weaker in current years.
I'm prepared to accept the conclusions pretty much as is, despite some strange places where I think they've misread their CIs. It's pretty impressive work and I believe that they've conclusively shown that unequal housework division is getting less predictive of fertility.

“Turned” into the President is an interesting term. Not elected. Kind of like it was preordained?
