The boring part of bigotry is that the arguments aren't creative at all, and haven't changed in hundreds of years. You can read justifications for shitty beliefs from the 1800s and it's the same as the ones that's trotted out now.
For example, one of the ones that reusable in every sphere is that, when you believe a group is inferior, whatever good that they do is seen as an exception, and any bad, no matter how isolated or individual, is seen as the norm and indictment of the whole group
So, just RANDOM connection, rather than seeing the USWNT's demolition of Thailand as a talent gap, which has its roots in population and the fact that Thailand has little to no institutional support, certain people were quick to use it as justification that women's soccer sucks
This tournament hasn't even been a week old and you've had guys posting videos of isolated bad touches, or bad teams, and using it to support their idea of the women's game. Though it never seems that they actually care or have watched it beyond looking for confirmation
Shit like that, for me at least, is not interesting and doesn't require any engagement. But it's peculiar that these people never question why they're personally offended by women's sports being supported or given a chance to succeed. What's the source of the agitation?
So, I don't know how you can look at the complex existence of women's sports, or women trying to succeed in any professional avenue, and think that the problem is that women are inherently inferior in all those places. It's the same conversation in STEM, in literature, in sports
We had dudes throwing tantrums because a film about superheroes had all of its female characters together in one shot. And it wasn't that long ago that a female scientist was the center of an internet conspiracy to discredit her and give credit to her male coworker.
Under every clip denigrating women's sports is a bunch of people congratulating themselves on having those ideas about the inherent inferiority of women, and saying that those athletes should go back to the kitchen. Like, it's clear that this isn't about the professions or sport.
Anyway, part of growing up, to me, is questioning why you believe the things you do, and more important, why you need to. More than the idea that women's sports are bad, is the question of why you need to believe in that and fight against any suggestions otherwise.
Because it's annoying to see people who have no interest, no knowledge, and no desire to understand the complexities of certain women's sports, speak authoritatively about why it shouldn't be supported or encouraged. And worst of all, their arguments are so boring and rehashed.
