This is so upsetting. The climate-change protestors were, according to the police and friends who were there, wholly peaceful. Why on earth does Field react with such ferocity? The violence of his intervention is quite wrong.
Some of you are saying @MarkFieldUK was justified in shoving the protestor against the wall and then pushing her by the neck. But I don’t think you can have watched the longer clip. Because it shows Field is not being interfered with in any way and simply lashes out. Surely...

Final round in MPs’ ballot for Tory leadership: Gove 75 (61) Hunt 77 (59) Johnson 160 (157). So the final contest to lead Tory party and become our prime minister - with decision made by 160,000 Tory members - will be between Johnson and Hunt

Striking that @BorisJohnson took just 3 additional votes. @michaelgove will smell a rat, fear he has been nobbled by @BorisJohnson manipulating his own support to keep him out of the final run-off, but will never be able to prove anything. Oh the hideousness of machine politics

Another interesting thread challenging my argument that party members should not choose the leader. Some responses follow.
1. First, I'd question the "surely": I don't think this is self-evident. It's a recent change & we should debate its merits. Choosing a prime minister is not an internal party matter: it's an intervention in the govt of the country & we should think carefully about how it's done.
2. We could, of course, generate a convention that a change of Prime Minister must trigger a general election, but I think we'd regret that in other circumstances. It would raise the bar substantially against removing a PM who was sick, hit by scandal or no longer able to govern.
