you've probably seen the #PhoenixPD video terrorizing a Black family at gunpoint because a small child supposedly took a doll. of course, the police response is to embellish what they were told, as if shoplifting some cheap shit from a discount store warrants SWAT tactics.
the slow-motion militarization of the police over the last five decades hasn't made anybody safer. if u give law enforcement agencies already drunk with power surplus military equipment, they'll manufacture reasons 2 use their new toys & they'll kill some people 4 shits & giggles
#PhoenixPD threatened a pregnant woman holding a newborn w/ death, held her at gunpoint, traumatized her toddler, & demanded she lay the baby on hot asphalt during summer. they did this not because she was a threat, or committed a serious crime, but b/c they get off on it.
#PhoenixPD uses these aggressive militarized tactics to induce fear and inflict trauma on undesirable people they don't feel an obligation to protect or serve. they are rewarded for this behavior, which is why they will continue defending it and continue doing it.
#PhoenixPD reminds us that we are all one five-finger discount, one traffic stop, one nosey ass busy body away from trauma and death over nothing. this is by design.
