united airlines: it would’ve been faster to just drive
hello from my new home, the newark airport
i’m sharing a two hour cab ride to laguardia with my new friends, an old couple named jack and buffy.
i’m helping buffy with her crossword. i was able to come up with three different stars of the film con air who have 6 letter last names. she’s not sure which one is correct.
jack found out i’m from charlottesville and now he’s telling me what the nazis did on august 11th was fine actually.
we’re all three sitting in the back seat of this unmoving cab in new york city traffic and i’ve told him that perhaps we will have to agree to disagree that it is fine that nazis tried to kill people i love. the rest of the ride is gonna be nice.
jack is just really worried about free speech.
i should’ve just spent the night in the newark airport.
the cab driver is from haiti. jack responds that he has been to puerto rico. those are different places.
he does not believe the cab driver that haiti is being exploited by the united states.
after getting out of the cab, i told jack that the people whose free speech he’s so concerned about are using that speech to incite violence. it isn’t about speech. it’s about power and violence and murder.
i told him i hope for his sake he dies before he realizes he’s wrong because what it would take to change his mind would be an experience i don’t wish on him.
then i told him to go straight to hell.
if i have to sit next to him on the airplane i’m going to Cause A Scene.
