A man has admitted assaulting Nigel Farage by throwing a milkshake over him in Newcastle

Paul Crowther pleaded guilty to common assault and criminal damage at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court

District Judge Bernard Begley has indicated that he will not jail Crowther and impose a community sentence instead

The hearing has been adjourned and will continue later
CPS hopes the case “acts as deterrent to others considering criminal form of political protest”

“People should be free to conduct legitimate political campaigns without fear of physical assault...is appropriate to bring charges where protests cross line into criminal behaviour”
Paul Crowther has been spared jail by the judge, who ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay Nigel Farage £350 compensation for the "act of crass stupidity"
The court heard that Crowther has lost his job as a technical adviser at Sky and received threats as a result of the incident, causing police to make regular checks on his home

His lawyer said he "wished he would not have acted as he did"

He was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. It's over the incident with Anna Soubry outside parliament on 7 January
As explained in this piece, the Public Order Act makes “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour” illegal where they cause harassment, alarm or distress. It's much more than just calling someone a Nazi

So, just to preface this. I won't be talking much about Brexit here. The reason being - it's been done. To death. And to the detriment of debate about how dangerous Farage actually is, and what he actually believes. We'll touch on it, but it ain't front row centre.
It's hard to know where to start with Farage, frankly. After doing the research that I have on him, it's stunning to think that he's the favourite for the European Elections. Sorry, stunning? I meant horrifying. But let's start with the young Farage, and work our way from there.

My company was raided. It should have been a straightforward matter. But the #MetPolice & #LBRUT forgot to seize my computer & came back to do a 2nd raid. The search warrant didn't permit a second entry, however, #LBRUT entered unlawfully
