Mayor @SteveBenjaminSC gives 10 tips for campaigns on how to win South Carolina: 1) opportunity—they want the opportunity to earn a good life right here.
2) kitchen table issues. Talk infrastructure. 3) don’t confuse black with liberal. They want to hear about jobs, the economy, thoughtful use of tax dollars. 4) there are 3 kinds of bbq in SC: tomato, mustard, and vinegar. Choose wisely. 5) Trade matters here.
SC is pro-trade, has a lot of foreign direct investment. 6) do not forget rural SC. Many rural counties are majority African American. Can’t reach them online or via tweet. They don’t have broadband. They do have sweet tea.
7) don’t shortchange Palmetto pride. #1 in foreign direct investment. @ClemsonFB is #1 too. 8) learn the language in the south. Northern fairy tales begin “Once upon a time.” Southern fairy tales begin “You ain’t gonna believe this shit...”
9) SC is not in the blue bubble. Can’t just get your message out on @twitter or @MSNBC. Need to get out into communities, churches. 10) opportunity has become concentrated in SC too. 31 of 46 counties lost jobs. Need to ensure people can earn where they are. #Opportunity2020
