Yep, that exactly the wrong call, so I'm not remotely surprised they took it.
Javid isn't up to much, but he is at least forcing the Conservative party to have a conversation about race which it badly needs to have.
I would take Gove over Hunt, personally. More cerebral. Slightly greater chance of there being a little flicker of content to the debate which will ensue.
But I do mean flicker. Like asking if you;d rather lose the third or the fourth toe.
Guess I should say one thing tho, for the record. I saw Hunt once, in a hallway by a post office. He couldn't have known anyone was looking. A worker came out wheeling some letters on a large trolley.
Hunt jumped right out the way, pushed himself up against the wall, apologised for being in the way and was extremely polite.
I know. You will think that there is no reason basic etiquette like this should be marked out. It is irrelevant to politics and we should criticise him for his performance in the jobs he's had, which has been relentlessly average. That's correct.
But for what it's worth that kind of courtesy and politeness, esp when they don't know they're being seen, is very rare in Cabinet-level politicians. He seemed like he was probably nice in real life.
