I used to think I wanted to become the kind of person who would get invited to these events and then I see what kind of horsepucky I'd have to spew to join the gang and I just couldn't do it with a straight face.
I suppose what I'm saying is that I wanted to reach a spot where other people would take my ideas seriously, but it's like to reach those heights you have to be willing to only pretend to take your ideas seriously. It's a performance. David Brooks is their spirit animal.
Like, of course Brooks is the keynote speaker. He's precision engineered to make the people at the Aspen Ideas Festival feel good about their own seriousness.
In sum: Barf.
Although, a paid trip to Aspen in the summer would be boss. Still: Barf.
