I'm sure a lot of this is out there but the cap is $109.14m - up $140,000 from projections. The min team salary is 90% of that so $98.226m - tax is $132.627m - that's $627k over estimate
the league earned $7.678 billion for the 2018-19 season - $3.976b in salaries and benefits were paid out which is 51.79% - the league has a hard cap at a macro level - so that's over the 51% the players were supposed to get
but 10% of players' salaries are withheld throughout the year in escrow for this contingency - and the players will be getting some of that back to the tune of $308 mil
the players are getting some money back - not all - so this shouldn't be looked at as a bonus or additional compensation - this is part of their salaries that they never got. How the system works . . .
Taxpayers for 2018-19 = OKC at $61.6 mil - they did a remarkable job whittling that down while staying competitive. Warriors $51.5m, Raptors $25.2m (well worth it), Blazers $15m, Celtics $3.4m - total $156.7m
Half of that luxury tax goes to the league to help fund revenue sharing - but $3.1 mil will be issues out to the non-tax teams. Any team not on the list of taxpayers gets that bump in $. That money gets paid out on my birthday, no later. I don't think that last part is in the CBA
No teams were under the minimum salary this year - the full MLE will be $9.258 mil, taxpayers have $5.718m and the room exception is $4.767m - teams have 1 of the 3 not 2 or 3
though they can choose to use less than the full mid-level if they want to avoid a hard cap - the early Bird exception is always 175% up from last year or, in this case, $9.6 mil - the greater # b/w the two
the estimated average player salary - which is a key figure to determine cap holds - is $9.56m - with cap going up - the max salaries are also up slightly $38.199m for KD, $32.742m for Kawhi & $27.285m for DLo
My favorite part: projections for 20-21 at $117m cap/$142m tax - for 21-22 it's $125m/$151m - but those estimates change over time, as noted earlier
The rookie min this season will be $898,310 which also serves as the empty roster charge when calculating a team's cap room. The 10+ max is $2,564,753 -- but on a 1-yr min deal for more experienced vets, the team will be charged a cap hit of $1,620,564
Finally, for now, Zion will get a slight raise, specifically his rookie year will go from $9,744,840 to $9,757,440 with the small cap increase. The 30th pick (Kevin Porter Jr) will earn $1.94 in his first season (assuming 120% standard bump)
