Amazing viz of world population change and implicitly, inequality. Even today the vast majority of humanity is black and brown—but that’s not who holds a majority of its wealth and power. Will things change by 2100, when 10 of the 12 biggest countries are African and Asian?
Important side note: As you can see, the one—the ONE—Western country that maintains its position in the top 12 indefinitely is the US.

That’s entirely due to immigration and the knock-on effect of immigrants having higher birthrates for a few generations.
The white nationalists who call immigration “cultural genocide” (by which they mean pluralist dilution of white supremacy) don’t get that their recipe for permanent apartheid represents a dead end for America—or any country clinging to monoracial identity.

“Not being a racist” doesn’t mean you “don’t have a racist bone in your body.” We live under systemic racism—all of us are shaped by it.

Joe is a decent guy who doesn’t hate black people. He also literally thinks that he, a white man, is the best-equipped person to fight racism.
If Biden REALLY wanted to fight racism in a way that disrupts rather than reinforces our racist, white-supremacist system, he’d go to @KamalaHarris right now and offer to be *her* VP. “It would be my humble honor to be part of making history again,” he could explain.

They’d win.
I would love to see a moderater or someone in the campaign press corps ask Biden point-blank if he would be willing to serve as Vice President on a @KamalaHarris led ticket.

I think the answer would be highly educational.

“I don’t believe you’re a racist” is almost as devastating a thing to say to someone as “I believe you ARE a racist.”

It is distinct from “I know you’re NOT a racist.” It’s a statement that says “I don’t have the evidence to prosecute, but something’s fishy here.”

It’s a shiv.
As we know, Kamala Harris is a damn good prosecutor.

Going to elaborate on trust. I said I don't trust anyone I don't know, and maybe that sounds exhausting or soul-destroying, but it's actually kind of relaxing. It saves me a step when I'm dealing with a person, or a crowd of people.
If a panhandler asks for money - I don't have to stop and assess what I think about them. I'm not scrutinizing their appearance, I'm not examining their story for holes, I'm not listening to my "gut" (implicit bias and mood).
Which isn't to say that I won't give them money.

But my action is not based on a relationship of trust I form with this random person I've never seen before.

To sum up today’s #Trump bullshittery: dude says he’ll sign the funding bill that just passed Congress AND will declare a (totes bogus btw) national emergency so that he doesn’t have to honor it.
Worse, the “conservatives” are all supporting this. Including MITCH MCCONNELL who now suddenly wants to sing about it like it’s free candy.

Aren’t y’all supposed to be AGAINST Federal Government overreach?!

Oh right. Not when you’re the ones doing it.

It's #InternationalMensDay and I see a lot of men sharing that image of all the problems men face (high rates of suicide, violence etc.), but not sharing any solutions. But hey, I guess it's cool that we got a day where we can point at feminists and yell: "I told you so!" Go us!
And yes, I have some ideas on how to try and start solving some of these issues. However, I guarantee, if you're the type of person who read my first post and got defensive because it felt like an attack on men, you're really not going to like what I have to say.
Because it's men whose shoulders the responsibility falls upon. Only we can fix this. Not feminists like Clementine Ford. It's not on them. It's on us. Toxic masculinity is one of the causes of high male suicide rates. The high rates of violence against men, well, that's men too.

As Corker and Menendez lay out origins of conflict, they (as many) forget to mention small but deleterious US role: stressing security assistance over economic support, kinetic counter-terrorism over political inclusivity, facilitating rent-seeking behavior by Saleh gov't.
I'm sure that Secretary Satterfield will provide hard evidence of how US support has reduced coalition civilian targeting in Yemen. General Votel didn't have any figures to provide to SASC last month, only a "trust us" argument.

I say surprising because when I first read a tweet about this, I mentally connected it to Trump's recent behavior and comments...
