Ridiculous that this has to be done, but @sinnfeinireland councillors are blatantly lying about a council vote which took place earlier today. The initial motion was brought by Sinn Féin called for the removal of all flags and banners by DfI, if they didn't have permission to fly
While we agreed with the sentiment behind wanting to remove offensive flags, the SF motion was ill conceived in that it did not even reference Soldier F flags, nor the parachute regiment. Secondly, it was so broad that it could be implemented in unsavoury ways such as...
The removal of any political flags or any random banner: environmental/prochoice/sports banner/local campaigns etc etc etc, should that banner not have permission from the Department, and should the minister decide to take action. In complete contravention to what SF now say....
I myself brought an amendment to the motion calling for it to be more specific, reference Soldier F etc. And raising the danger of allowing a minister to make whimsical decisions about removing banners without community consultation. *****Sinn Féin voted against****

Worst part: Cllr Beattie who is now spreading these lies about my amendment was the one to reply to me to say they wouldn't be supporting the inclusion of Soldier F flags because it was too narrow. Again, this was recorded. It will be accessible online soon.
Here is the initial SF motion:
