Can someone explain why reporters shouldn't be paid for our work?

Everyone wants the news and investigative pieces. But there are humans like me on the other side of that journalistic work. And we get paid very little for what is critically important work that takes hours & hours of often tedious work to get you the facts.

Just so you know, when you say "f**k paywalls" you're saying "I want reporters laid off."
When you stopped buying print newspapers (which you can still do, btw), news sites had to find another way to pay people.
