.@MrAndyNgo is a friend and colleague. I messaged w/ him when he got to hospital; he was shaken and bloodied and grateful to have walked away. To those who insinuate he was asking for a beating by walking into the fire, I ask, how do you do your work? Also, how are you helping?
Things will get hotter in Portland, I will bank on it. I have never lived through a time/in an environment with as many people metaphorically bleeding from their teeth to prove their rightness...

This has (no surprise!) become the week's most "shocking!" ammunition a/g the "other" side, which, fair, and we cannot be expected to pay attention to the heated minutiae of every city. But this has far from come out of the blue. Portland has been priming for this for years...
The city, since I've been here (2004), has beamed to the world an image of itself as a place of inclusion, of tolerance, a place to live your ideals and set a place at the table for every citizen. Utopia always contains the poison pill, and around 2011, it started to leach...
I ran a reading series that year. A group of women sat in the back, knitting and talking loudly and over the reader, a designer who mentioned yellow was a hard color for most people to wear. One knitter started screaming the woman was a racist. I was flummoxed. I'm not anymore.

But that's just the thing. It doesn't. And the work I cited doesn't do this. You're collapsing work that is descriptive/analytical of historical and cultural processes with work that is implicitly prescriptive or invested in finding something essentially American about America.
Now, this kind of investment *was* the stuff of the American studies project half a century ago but AmStud and AmRel have long since moved away from those kinds of questions by asking things like:
Who defines what “America” means? What institutions help enforce or undermine a particular definition? Under what historical conditions does one definition have greater sway than another’s?

I decide to #water my #garden
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my #car and decide it needs washing

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car

I lay my car keys on the #table, put the junk mail in the #garbage can under the table and notice that the can is full

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first

[Wątek] 1/ na szpagat @prezydentpl trzeba spojrzeć w szerszym kontekście. Prezydent zaniechał dwóch fundamentalnych czynności wprost przyznanych mu w jego ustawie o SN #SN
2/ pierwsza - prezydent powinien wydać postanowienie (art. 142 ust. 2 Konstytucji) stwierdzając przejście w stan spoczynku 10 sędziów. Tymczasem prezydent wysłał listy, w których pisze, że przeszli w stan spoczynku. List nie ma żadnego znaczenia, nie kreuje stanu prawnego.
3/ co ciekawe, listy wysłał również do tych sędziów, którzy powołali się na Konstytucję, wyrażając wolę dalszego urzędowania i nie dołączając zaświadczeń lekarskich. Co ciekawe, takiego listu nie wysłał do PSN Iwulskiego. Ten również stwierdził, że nie dołączy zaśw. lekarskiego.
