The UN Special Rapporteur who led an investigation into the killing of Jamal Khashoggi will ask Canada to support stripping Saudi Arabia of the right to host the G20, and to be a leading voice on funding a new venue. Direct pitch to be made next week.
UN Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard will meet with Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland in London next week, where she will make the pitch for support for another country to host the 2020 G20.
Callamard says Canada has taken the strongest stance against Saudi Arabia in the western world, along side Germany.
Callamard says this has to be a collective effort. Says Canada must exercise leadership here - and other countries must rally around Canada in a way that hasn’t yet happened.
