Today's U.S. vs. Mexico soccer finals match in Chicago (Gold Cup) is not only about national identity, but bluntly speaking, about race: Indigenous vs European. The majority of so-called 'U.S. Hispanics' will be rooting for Mexico, as they have done for yrs. #OneNationOneTeam 1/4 
The continued existence of the Mexican nation-state (itself based on the Aztec identity of "Mexica") exerts an Indigenous cultural identity that looms large over the consciousness of Mexican-descent people in the United States. 2/4
The best thing the racists can do for us is to continue describing us as "illegals" and foreigners (people who do not belong to their American-colonial identity). This ensures the development of a "nation within a nation". Fortunately, they cannot help themselves. 3/4
With each passing decade, it becomes more obvious that the American Empire is united only by a thin veneer of Anglo-Saxon folklore, a multipartite legal system, & a common monetary system. The undercurrents of ongoing demographic change, however, will prove far more lasting. 4/4
