While @Jeremy_Hunt deserves credit for the necessary defence of Darroch, who has to be praised for doing his job in every respect - reporting frankly to his sending state, stepping down when the leaks of others made him ineffective, there’s something strange here (2/3)
@Jeremy_Hunt Namely the notion of “speaking truth to power”. An ambassador is part of the state’s machine. Traditionally, (s)he IS the power. It is noteworthy that an ambassador doing his job for a P5 power can now aptly be described as “speaking truth to power”. (3/3)
