I am pleased to say that yesterday's meeting with @UniversitiesUK and #USS to discuss modelling which might provide a different perspective on the scheme's long-term health than that offered by Test 1 was one of the most productive I've been involved in in my year on the JNC. 1/
With @UniversitiesUK now showing much more interest in this area and on very similar territory to @UCU, it is noticeable that #USS are finally putting resource into the matter instead of the low prioritisation and delays that have met our previous requests. 2/
It illustrates one important point: for all of the claims from @UniversitiesUK on how they have pushed to get the JEP recommendations implemented, their lack of active support for our analysis on Test 1 over the past year has let valuable time slip through our fingers. 3/
It's good news that @UniversitiesUK are now on board with a thorough testing of the valuation and the scheme's long-term health. But this support from them is now almost certainly too late to prevent #USS imposing contribution increases this autumn. 4/
Scheme members had to strike a year ago to get an independent report which could have been commissioned long before we took to the picket lines. We are now preparing to strike again to avoid contribution increases that the report and the available evidence say aren't needed. 5/
If @USSemployers had read the situation better a couple of years ago, we could have had a Joint Expert Panel without the painful strikes. If @UniversitiesUK had backed us up on our Test 1 analysis last autumn, we might now be in a position to avoid another dispute. 6/
It's hard to come to any conclusion other than @UniversitiesUK being responsible for the situation we now find ourselves in. We have already paid heavily both financially and emotionally for the slow response from @USSemployers. It is their turn to foot the bill. 7/7
