Blimey, what a week. I had a mini-pupil (work experience) with me and seeing it through someone else's eyes did make me step back and think how lucky I am to do the work I do. 2 fascinating conferences, on children's rights and social rights, a harrowing 2-day inquest, Panorama..
... then there's the slightly mad side of what I do, dealing with ugly stuff (you can probably guess...) but also brings home the importance of keeping fighting for what's right.

And I got my bike nicked! What a week. Treated myself to a nice new one😀

Have family, friends and @adamgopnik to keep me company for a relaxing weekend. Could do with at least a few hundred of those sanities

This is an important national moment and (as a follower of the politics of religious communities) has been brewing for a while. A broad coalition must be set up, including the government, in clear support of LGBT-inclusive education
Religious parents have a right for their children to be educated compatibly with their m beliefs, but that right is qualified. Schools have a duty to increase awareness and acceptance of LGBT people. Balance must be handled sensitively but religious communities can’t have a veto
In a liberal society, a core value is people of all different backgrounds and characteristics must live together without discrimination. The state school system is one of the key places that happens. Religious orthodoxy should be respected but sometimes it can’t be followed

2/ I thought I had become desensitised to the caustic state of our current politics. But I must admit the events of this week have taken me aback.

I have some thoughts about we have got here. And how we might make things better. They revolve around kindness. And Winnie the Pooh.
3/ Having closely followed the Labour antisemitism issue for 18 months or so, the revelations from Panorama about Labour’s procedures did not surprise me. But seeing the human cost, the mental health issues, even thoughts of suicide, did.

We're doing quite a bit of hiring (for us) @convertkit, which means I've gotten the chance to observe the process in quite a bit of detail while working with our hiring managers. This is a thread on what I'm seeing, which I hope will be valuable if you're looking for a role.
1. Hiring always takes me back to the days of running my first business - Living for Monday. It makes me want to help people find jobs more easily. So these are a few observations and thoughts on getting hired at great companies like ConvertKit.
2. I know huge companies use automated filters/keywords to rule out applicants. At some companies (like us), real humans read every app. When your answers on an app show you were in a rush or didn’t put much thought into it, it shows me that you don’t really want to work here.

1) The Indigenous Peoples March, yesterday in DC, ended at the Lincoln Memorial. I wasn't able to attend but did watch livestreams, and videos, etc.

A dreadful moment happened there, at the Lincoln Memorial.
2) In the videos, an elder is shown singing, playing his hand drum. There is another man with him, also singing, also with a hand drum.

All around then are high school boys in MAGA hats.
3) The boys taunt, chant, and some are doing a tomahawk chop and are singing the tune that goes along with it. Some are wearing shirts that indicate they are there for the pro life march that also took place in DC yesterday. Some wear shirts from Covington Catholic School in KY.

Ok, now that I've taken some time to process the info coming out on Cesar Sayoc and the attempted bombings, I have a few things to say.

First of all, there is an obvious double standard here. Am I the only one who remembers Nancy Pelosi being affronted at the suggestion that Dem rhetoric might have contributed to the Bernie Bro shooter's actions on that baseball field? HOW DARE YOU! /2
Now, Ds & media (but I repeat myself) are happy to blame Trump's rhetoric (which for the record, I hate and said so) for the actions of a crazy person who has a rap sheet of violent threats and assaults going back to 2002, over a decade before Trump came down that escalator. /3

Every day next few days I'll share one #depression/#anxiety insight from my own experience. If it helps anyone a wee bit, it'll be worth it.
1. "#Happiness" can scare #anxiety patients. In our heads, things are always going wrong. Fear of a "happy" moment undone is doubly painful.
